With temperatures trending up again, some have started planning for the summer already. If you want to cool down your home, but you don’t have a central AC system, or if you have a room that just get’s too hot during the summer months despite central air, you might be thinking about installing a window mounted air conditioner.
These units can be quite effective in cooling down a room, ranging all the way up to 23,000 BTU, but they need to be installed correctly both to be effective and safe.
If you install a window air conditioner above ground level, there is quite a danger if it isn’t mounted safely. A falling air conditioner could easily kill someone if it were to fall on them. This is why all the mounting hardware needs to be installed correctly, and in some cases, some additional support can be installed for safety.
You should also have it connected directly to a wall receptacle and not to an extension cord or power strip. Unless you are using an extension cord that is specifically made for air conditioners, you are creating a fire hazard.
