Your wall receptacles could prove to be a death trap for a child. Children are curious by nature, and sometimes they figure out that it is possible to stick a metal object into a wall receptacle, with disastrous effect. While you as a parent naturally will keep an eye on your young children, it doesn’t take more than a moment of inattention before a child manages to get itself into trouble. So what can you do? There are plastic covers that you can install into wall receptacles to block them, but a child could pry these out with some determination. One of the best solutions is to have tamper-resistant receptacles installed. These will only allow plugs to be inserted with equal pressure on both sides. This will prevent children from inserting a metal object into the receptacle and get shocked. It would be best to have an electrician install the receptacles since there is a risk that an inexperienced person could install them improperly and create an electrical hazard.
