You might be aware that crime rates are on the rise all over the country, but do you know how bad it really is?

Several hundred homes are burglarized every hour, and your home could very well be next. So how do you fight against those statistics? There are a few proven things that will lower the chance of your home being burglarized. One of the simplest methods is to have a home alarm. This will, in most cases discourage the burglars from even trying. If you can’t afford an alarm, the impression that you have an alarm system can be created by using signs and props, even though it doesn’t offer the protection that an actual system does.

Most burglars enter through the front door, so you should make that as secure as possible. The door should be solid wood or metal to make it difficult to break down, and it should be firmly attached to a solid frame and have a sturdy deadbolt. Be careful to avoid showing when you are out of town. Don’t post it on an open facebook account or similar social media. Make sure your lawn is mowed or your driveway plowed, and have someone pick up your mail and newspapers that might get dropped off.
