When you see something that appears to be growing in a dark and musty part of your home, your first thought is probably that you have a mold problem, isn’t it? You are most likely correct, but there is a way to be certain. While you definitely could pay for a mold test, there is a DIY sampling method that will give you the opportunity to send a sample to a lab to find out more. The nice thing is that you can do this just using items that you more than likely already have available in your home.
The first step is to take a piece of scotch tape and push it firmly up against the area where you suspect mold growth. After that, you take the piece of tape and tape it to the inside of a sealable sandwich bag. And, that is it! Just send the bag off to a lab to be tested, and they should be able to identify whether or not it is mold, what type of mold it is, and how serious the problem is. Your next step would be to get remediation going, especially if it is a type of mold that is harmful to human health.
